Discover the Notre-Dame Cathedral of Strasbourg
Notre-Dame de Strasbourg is one of the most visited cathedrals in France. It is visible from the entire Alsace plain thanks to its spire which culminates at 143 meters high.
Built in pink sandstone from the Vosges between the 13th and 15th centuries, it is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Its Gothic style and its sublime rose window make it an unmissable masterpiece during your stay in Alsace.
It is one of the singularities of the Alsatian capital. Strasbourg Cathedral has only one spire which gives the monument a unique character.
It took almost 3 centuries for the builders to build what the people of Strasbourg affectionately call "Môman".
Admire its façade and its particularly rich statuary with its hundreds of sculptures such as the fight between vices and virtues or the resurrection of Christ.
Among the wonders, you will also find the Pillar of Angels which represents the Last Judgement or the great organs.
On summer evenings, the light scenography proposed on the façade of the monument is absolutely sublime.
At the back of the cathedral, do not miss admiring the astronomical clock, the result of a collaboration between artists, mathematicians and technicians.
Created in 1574, this masterpiece of watchmaking is a technical feat thanks to its perpetual calendar indicating the movement of the planets on an astrolabe.
Every day at 12:30 p.m. sharp, you can watch the game of automatons, including the parade of the Apostles. Access is from 11:30 a.m. from the Place du Château.
Don't forget to climb the platform of the cathedral perched at 66 meters high. Of course, you will have to climb the 330 steps, but once you reach the top, the view is breathtaking.
You will not only be able to admire the rooftops of Strasbourg but also see the Vosges and the Black Forest. You will also have the chance to admire the spire up close.
Access is via the Place du Château, on the right side of the cathedral and the last climb takes place at 6:15 p.m. in winter and 7:15 p.m. in summer.
